It's no secret that Robert Smith was a big fan of Joy Division and still is a fan of New Order, which was formed after Ian Curtis committed suicide at the age of 23. New Order was formed by Stephen Morris, Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook of the former Joy Division. Cool.
But the music of New Order is some of the best around. The band released some of the most influential dance music of the 1980s. To show the influence the band has had on new artists, New Order has put up a New Order website where bands list their favorite New Order songs. The kicker is that Joy Division was formed after Sumner and Hook attended a Sex Pistols concert in London.
It's no surprise that Robert Smith has a place on it and lists as one of his favorite New Order songs "A Lonely Place." You can listen to it above. The song is reflective of Edgar Allan Poe's Alone.
